Before she ever melted any wax, the idea for Elondia Harden’s candle brand, ElonWick, came to her subconsciously. “I ended up having this dream about going to a black heritage festival. Savannah [Georgia] has one every year in February, and it’s one of my favorite events. I was walking up to this booth that had different colored candles in these 12-ounce mason jars. And I remember looking up at the logo, but the words were fuzzy so I couldn’t see them, but I remember the font and the color scheme of it.”
But why soy wax, instead of paraffin, which is often found in mass-produced, conventional candles? Soy candles don’t give off soot. They burn slowly and much cleaner than paraffin.
